Wie geht's?
What's happened to television? A slow, steady decline - that's what.
Game shows are the TV equivalent of vape and Two Dollar shops. Cheap and nasty and appealing to the vulnerable. TV game shows are everywhere now (I can count ten which doesn't even include The Chase).
It used to be a game show had some vague entertainment value. I loved watching The Weakest Link and Pointless after school when living in England.
TV on demand and Netflix have pretty much killed off old school TV programming. Jacky still watches the news on TV at 6.00 each night (it's a hard habit to break) but that's it.
I tried to explain to my Year 9 tutor class what life was like media wise when I was growing up but it's too far from their media experience in 2026 for them to grasp it fully.
Pretty amazing how, in my lifetime, the introduction of personal computers, mobile phones, streaming platforms, and social media has altered people's lives.
From no TV to mindless, completely disposable TV in roughly 70 years.
Love and peace - Wozza
