I've got a feeling, I think that everybody knows (The Beatles)

Happy 30th to DLG

Wie geht's?

Thanks to Peter Jackson and Jade Purdy the weekend was a super lovely one.

We celebrated Jade's 30th birthday with her on Sunday. BTW I love that photo above - beautiful!

This means the Purdettes pictured below are all now in their thirties. As a mate said to me recently - who would have thought we'd have children in their thirties? Feels strange given I still feel 22 inside but there you go.

And Peter Jackson? Well, there are no words of gratitude adequate enough.

I watched the three episodes of Get Back over three days with a permanent grin. The culmination of the rooftop concert makes even more sense as a climax now. Maybe even Macca will agree with that - at the time he was really unsure about the roof as a venue - he was aiming for a more conventional audience.

I loved it and I'll be watching it again.

That brings to an end, for now, celebrations of the original Let It Be album and film. Phew - records, book and the three Get Back episodes.

Job done!

Shoures soote (Chaucer)

Wie geht's?

Spring is back which so far means a lot of rain, fluctuating temperatures, rain, blossoms, wind and more rain. And we live in the Hawke's Bay. On the other side of the Ruahines and the rain shadow!!

Still, that's spring right?

In the northern hemisphere of Chaucer's time:

Whan that Aprill, with his shoures soote
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote
And bathed every veyne in swich licour,
Of which vertu engendred is the flour...

(When in April (September for us) the sweet showers fall that pierce March's (August's) drought to the root and all, and bathed every vein in liquor that has power to generate therein and sire the flower...).

So it ain't like it's a new thing.

Anyway...

Had to go to the dentist today: first of two crowns. My dentist (Dr Nick, age 33) is great.

Was talking to colleagues at school about it earlier in the day and reminiscing about the dark days of primary school and going to the murder house (link takes you to a previous post on this subject).

Appears we all called it that!! How was that possible - in pre internet/the-world-is-a-village days???

Even different generations called it The Murder House.

What scars! Poor dentists!

Anyway - we were chatting while my crown was being made , and Nick alerted me to this film by Peter Jackson. Called - yes, indeedy, The Murder House!

This is getting spooky!

You don't pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger and you don't mess around with Jim (Jim Croce)

Wie geht's?

You alright?

Some things you can mess around with.

Dr Who can become reincarnated in a woman's form.

The 4th plinth at Trafalgar square undergoes constant change.

But other things can't be altered.

The Match of the Day theme is untouchable, for instance.

Two minute's silence, is another example.

Armistice day, a.k.a. Remembrance Day was yesterday.

We were on a train heading in to London Bridge when 11.00am happened.

Two minutes silence seems like such a small demand.

Last night we watched the highlights from the ceremony at Whitehall on BBC2 and that was followed by Peter Jackson's extraordinary film, They Shall Not Grow Old.

A very emotional, humbling experience.

I wish my life was a non-stop Hollywood movie show (The Kinks)

A few days holidaying in Wellington has reignited my love of tea from teapots.

These days Wellington is more noted for movie stars than teapots so I'll get to an explanation in due course.

Speaking of movie stars: Te Papa currently has a few of The Hobbit/Lord Of The Rings costumes on exhibit, even our hotel featured a life size prop which appropriately indicated the power of Peter Jackson and what he's done for the place.

The man's presence pervades inner city Wellington: as I bought a leather men's bracelet the shop guy quickly told me that Peter Jackson shops and buys his there. Okay.

And so - to the teapots...our hotel was on Cuba Street - boho central and so all the cafes and tea shops aiming for that retro feel retain the use of a teapot. Quite right!

This pleased me no end. There's something very comforting in a cuppa from a teapot. It also appeals immensely to the skinflint in me - I can usually squeeze out three cups.

When we returned home I bowed to pressure from SWMBO to buy a teapot to go with her hand made tea set from Staffordshire, which she's been eyeing up for some time now. It's fab.

This purchase prompted a discussion with Jade about the old days of my youth when we didn't have tea bags and so used loose leaf tea in teapots. I have no idea when we first got tea bags in NZ but we certainly didn't subscribe to them in the Purdy household.

Anyway I maintain that a cuppa in the old days in mum's best china far surpasses the modern expedient methods.

But I digress - here is our latest teapot on its inaugural brew:

Luvverley!
